Nuclear MedicineNuclear medicine is a safe and painless imaging technology, which uses tiny amounts of specially formulated radioactive material or tracers. The tracers, which are attracted to specific organs, bones or tissues in the body, are IV injected or swallowed while images are taken at timed intervals. Nuclear medicine testing is commonly used for the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid conditions, cardiac stress tests, bone scans, lung scans, liver scans, renal scans, and gall bladder scans. Some scans require special positioning, and most exams take one to two hours. |
