Digital Mammography

Advanced Imaging of Port Charlotte prides itself on being an innovative, progressive organization utilizing cutting edge technology. We are proud to be the ONLY facility in Charlotte County to offer full field digital mammography.

The difference between standard analog mammography and full field digital mammography is in the processing of the exam. Because it is digital, the resulting images are available within 10-15 seconds of the exposure so the technologist can immediately determine if positioning adequately exhibits as much breast tissue as possible. Once the exam is complete, the images are sent directly to the radiologists’ workstation for review. Studies have shown that the digital exam saves patients valuable time and additional radiation exposure by reducing the need for repeat imaging.

Not only does each mammogram get read by one of our experienced radiologists, it is also sent through our Computer Aided Detection (CAD) system. CAD allows our radiologists to be more effective in their interpretation. This is all a part of our commitment to excellence and state-of-the-art technology, for the benefit of our patients and referring physicians. Our highly skilled, motivated and caring team of mammography technologists are licensed, registered and certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology. Our facility is also accredited by the American College of Radiology.

Digital Mammography is covered by your insurance just as that of a standard mammogram exam. Typically, a mammogram is exempt from a co-pay amount. It must be one year and one day after your previous exam, unless there is a problem noted. A prescription from your physician is required for your exam.
