American Cancer Society
This season marks Advanced Imaging’s 6th continuous year of support for the American Cancer Society and the work it does locally and in communities like ours around the nation. Ask about tickets for this year’s signature fund raiser, The Cattle Barons Ball.
Free to Breathe: National Lung Cancer Partnership
Tom Cappiello – husband, father, writer, lung cancer patient — plans to be competitor No. 1 at the event he is spearheading Saturday Nov. 13 at Charlotte Sports Park. “It’s a 5-K run-and-walk event that raises money and awareness,” Cappiello said. Both have been lacking for lung cancer, he said, and the November awareness month will be the perfect opportunity to get the message out.
Cappiello, board chairman of Virginia B. Andes Community Clinic, acknowledges Advanced Imaging support on both a personal level and a community level.
“The Virginia B. Andes Community Clinic serves the underserved,” Cappiello said. “Advanced Imaging has done countless studies pro bono,” he said. “They serve the community both up front and behind the scenes.”
Speakers Bureau
The Advanced Imaging staff is available to provide educational opportunities at community centers, schools, and local health department venues. Please call if you would like to get the word out to your group about mammograms, early detection, self-examinations, warning signs, and follow-up care.
Teaching the Next Generation
Advancing imaging technology and our continuing tradition of patient-centered care don’t happen in a vacuum. We mentor and teach. Advanced Imaging is proud to be affiliated with Edison College’s radiological technology program and provide accredited clinical rotations for a highly select group of fewer than half a dozen students each year.
Autism Speaks
Autism Speaks is a “family project” at Advanced Imaging. “We became involved with Autism Speaks through a nurse we know; she has a child with autism and in the course of learning about her child’s situation, she has become a well-informed, credible source of support and education about autism,” Dr. Fabian said. “We have been delighted to be able to help and support her educational and supportive efforts,” he said.
Movement Disorder Society
As imaging studies become more and more sophisticated, new diagnostic realms open up. PET scans, for instance, offer visual clues that help doctors diagnose Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, and other conditions. The term “movement disorder” covers a wide variety of conditions, Advanced Imaging Medical Director Thomas Fabian said. “It’s the power of medical imaging that lets us see metabolism, structure and function. We can do this in real time, responding almost like an emergency team would when a diagnosis needs to be made.”
